At first I thought I might just spend a bit over a hundred dollars for a basic model- but then I got a message from the seller- no go, too hard to ship or was there a disaster in the factory? The text was rather long and confusing.
So, I found and Australia supplier and went to an Italian model- $469 for the Viola plus another hundred for sundries: mute, shoulder rest and a couple of books. So in the end, $561. I declare this my Xmas and birthday present to myself.
I didn’t ask for a red case but I am totally happy with it.
Stentor- note the second bow position (something to contemplate for the future).
It really is a beautiful thing fitting with utter snugness in the case.
As you can from the violin on the left, this Viola is a few inches longer than a violin. This is the 16 inch model.
This just arrived separately. It is recommended to help with posture. We shall see.
Hopefully tomorrow I will collect the mute from the Post Shop- and special tape to help me learn the new fingering.
I have gotten started a bit- putting rosin (pictured) on the bow and making some noise. I have to say it is impressively loud so I will aim for early afternoon for my practicing to lessen the pain for my neighbours.
Hell knows how this will go. I might even seek out a tutor.
Anyway, if I am lucky I will get the last pieces I need tomorrow and can begin in earnest.
Happy New Year!
Thanks for dropping by.
Regards,
Reno
